The City of Hobbs Fire Department, a department deeply committed to customer service, is responsible for protecting life, property, and the environment from the hazards of fire, hazardous materials incidents, and for providing emergency medicals service and transport. The department serves a population of approximately 40,000 within a 171 square mile jurisdiction in fire response and 1200 square miles in Emergency Medical Services.

The Fire Department is staffed by 74 uniformed and 4 civilian employees, and organized into two divisions:  Administration and Operations.

The Administration Division oversees Fire Prevention Bureau, raining, Emergency Medical Services and provides for the overall management of the department.

Prevention Bureau is responsible for reviewing, updating, and enforcing fire-related codes and ordinances.  Activities carried out by this division include code compliance inspections of all commercial occupancies, public education programs, and the investigation of fires to determine origin and cause.

Operations is responsible for responding to emergency incidents. These incidents include fires of all types, medical emergencies, and hazardous material incidents. To provide a timely response, three fire stations are strategically located throughout Hobbs. Each fire station is staffed 24 hours per day. Additionally, fire apparatus, ambulances are also housed at all of our stations. All uniformed personnel are licensed Emergency Medical Technicians. The fire department offers advance life support services on all ambulances.

The Operations Division staffs a Hazardous Materials Response Team which provides emergency response services to isolate, contain, identify, and mitigate unplanned and uncontrolled releases of hazardous substances. Additionally, the division operates high angle rescues, confined space, and other specialized services to rescue trapped persons. HFD also provides Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting services to the Lea County Regional Airport.
